Family Mission Trips

Do you feel the Lord pulling your heart-strings to join your church on a mission trip, but feel too guilty leaving your young children behind? Don’t fear… we have an opportunity for you and your entire family to come and minister to the community as a whole unit. We offer a weeklong trip, from Sunday evening through Friday morning and long weekend trips.

Description:  Work along side your spouse and kids. Apply Deuteromony 6:5-9 to your family life.

5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

Parents as Teachers

The Community Crossing announces the start of Parents as Teachers in McDowell County!

Its been a long time coming but it is finally here. Working with pre-natals through 5 years of age, Parents as Teachers is an in-home family education program. Karen Wilson serves as both parent educator and supervisor and Sarah Diaz serves as a parent educator. Karen's heart is to work with young mothers with children while Sarah desires to work with young teen mothers who are still in high school. Presently we have 12 known pregnancies in one of our local high schools and one in a middle school. Our staff has been through numerous trainings leading up to our first visits. You can join us in this new, exciting and much needed ministry by participating in one or more of the following:

Who We Are

The Community Crossing, Inc., (formerly known as McDowell Mission, Inc.) is an independent, non-profit organization and our number one goal is to seek out where God is working and to join Him in it. McDowell County, West Virginia is most often defined by what it once was in the “golden era” of the mining industry. But we, however, prefer to focus on what God is doing now, and how to better reach the people around us in the future.
We love our Father in Heaven and are eternally indebted to Jesus for paying for our sins through His death on the Cross.  We also believe that, as an expression of our gratitude, we are called to love and serve others.  No one can be perfect in this, but we live our lives in an attempt to be examples of God’s love to those around us.  As we reach out in genuine, consistent love, we hope that people will be attracted to it.  We pray that people will investigate the reason for these loving actions and discover God’s love.  We desire to love God, love others, and teach others to love God as well!
